OCTOBER READ (halfway mark): the southern book club’s guide to slaying vampires.
I’m too fired up to NOT blog about this tonight.
This month’s read is as the title of this blog states: The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix. I’m reading it with a friend of mine (we’re trying to get sort of a book club going ourselves), and I’m halfway through it. Since it’s October, I wanted to read something spooky-related, and the fact that this book had the word “vampire” on the cover made me feel like this would be a good choice.

And all I have to say right now is: WHAT. THE. HELL?! I’m FURIOUS!!! This book has me so upset, I want to finish the whole thing tonight to see what happens! I obviously won’t give anything way (yet…I’m sure a blog post will be up eventually about my full review), but all you need to know is that right now, I’m so mad at how things are going for the protagonist. Her husband is an IDIOT! That’s all I’m going to say.
However, I don’t want you to take my anger as me saying this book isn’t good. It’s actually very good; I don’t usually read male authors, so this is a pleasant surprise. I’m curious to see how this book will end, and what other books Hendrix has that are good. I believe some of my followers on Twitter (or X, now) mentioned some to me, so I’ll have to check them out too!
But, if I finish this book before the month is over, I’m going back and forth between reading another spooky book, OR starting the Harry Potter series because…I’VE NEVER READ THEM. THERE. I SAID IT. 🫣 I’m leaning more towards Harry Potter, but I don’t know, what do y’all think?
Should I do a full book review once I finish Hendrix’s book (with or without spoilers?) When I’m finished, should I read something else spooky, or Harry Potter? Tell me your thoughts!
