writing inspo.

I told myself that it’s a new month, therefore, I want to be better about writing every day again. My coworkers and I talked about how we each had diaries that we’d write in when we were growing up, and how we still have some of them to this day, and it made me wonder whether or not I should’ve been keeping a diary this whole time as an adult.

I have kept prayer journals which can show some insight as to what was going on in my life at the time, and I still keep one now, but I wonder if I need to start keeping another diary for my day-to-day stuff. Because while blogging is fun, and also part of my writing journey, there are a lot of thoughts that I can’t really share here because they’re too private. I’m a huge advocate for being vulnerable, but everything doesn’t need to be out on the table for everyone.

Not only did I talk about writing in diaries today, but a friend of mine who’s also a writer said that she’s been watching a TV show that’s inspired her writing heart. I told her that it’s really cool to watch a show, or to read a book, and feel your writing brain fill up with ideas, language, descriptions. It almost makes you want to write right away, as soon as the credits roll or you finish reading the last sentence on the page. Honestly, her feeling excited and inspired along pushed me to get this blog post done tonight. Sometimes you need another writer to help push you into writing too.

It’s interesting what inspires me to write on a daily basis. Sometimes it’s subjects like this that were brought up at work originally, and continued on in a different conversation, like with my friend who is also a writer. Sometimes it’s a show or a book. Sometimes it’s every day life. And sometimes it’s a friend expressing their own inspiration.

Whatever it may be, this month (and continuing on), I hope to capture the inspiration that finds me so I can express myself here, or in a diary, or both. Maybe even in a story that I haven’t touched in months 😅 or in poetry, which has also been less frequent for me lately.

If you’re a writer (this includes singer/songwriter, novelist, poet, etc.) what inspires YOU to write?
