Straying away from the typical prompts to give you guys something a little fun!

*I’ll do my best but I can’t guarantee that there won’t be spoilers in this post so, read at your own risk!*

My boyfriend and I just finished watching this anime series called Chainsaw Man. I was a little skeptical at first that it would be good because the name is a little *ehh*, but it pleasantly surprised me! There’s only one season though 🥲 and it was released recently, like the last episode aired in December of last year, so we’ll have to wait a little bit for season 2, I fear.

BUT onto my review!I won’t go too much into background and detail because I’d prefer you watch the show, and not just read about it!

the characters

The main character is a guy named Denji, who’s this homeless teen (16, I think?) that lives with a chainsaw devil he named Pochita (the cutest devil you ever did see. He’s like a puppy 🥺). Then there’s Makima, the head of the Special Divisions in Public Safety (or maybe she’s the head of Public Safety, period?) who hunt devils that roam through the cities of Japan (this anime is set in Tokyo). Aki Hayakawa is the uptight leader of Special Division 4 who has contracts with Kon (the Fox Devil), the Curse Devil, and eventually the Future Devil. His partner is Himeno, a cigarette addict with an eye patch, who has a contract with the Ghost Devil (she sacrificed her eye for her contract with it). Then there’s the fiend Power (a fiend is a devil that has taken over a human corpse as its last resort to survive), who’s the Blood Devil, able to control her own blood, forming weapons with it mostly.

Favorite Character? I don’t know why I’m so prone to choosing the main character as my favorite character, but it’s hard not to love Denji! Even though his motivations for doing what he does are a little perverted (you’ll just have to watch to see what I mean 😂), he’s just funny and lovable and the fact that *SPOILER* him and Pochita are connected physically makes him even more special.

Runner Up Favorite Character? Power is hilarious too! Her and Denji have this sort of sibling relationship and rivalry that is sweet and fun to watch, even though they’re both fiends and devils with their own selfish motives for the things they do!

Least Favorite Character? I honestly don’t think I have a character that I absolutely hate. It is only the first season so, we shall see if I dislike someone in the second season!

biggest plot twists?

When you find out why Aki wants to go after the Gun Devil so badly.

Special Division 4 getting annihilated so close to the season’s end, and we lose a main character (I won’t spoil that for you!)

endearing devils.

I’m telling you…I didn’t think I’d get attached to any characters watching this anime, but I absolutely love Denji and Power’s dynamic. Throwing Aki in the mix too because they all live together is also fun to watch! Who knew a couple of devils could pull at your heartstrings a little bit?

overall rating?

I give this anime a 9/10! The only reason why it’s not a full 10 is because they left us off with some confusing hints for the next season, and because of who we lost during season 1 😭. I can’t wait for it, but I know I’m going to have to 🥲
