“Halloween doesn’t feel very ‘Halloween-y’ this year.”
I’ve seen so many people say how the holidays don’t feel like they usually do, and I’m pretty sure I know why. The answer? Impatience.
You know how many social media posts I saw about people being ready to celebrate Halloween RIGHT AFTER the Fourth of July? SO many! I’m convinced that people start celebrating and thinking about holidays so early, way before they should, that when the actual time comes to celebrate the holiday, it doesn’t feel like “that time of year” anymore.
I wish we could just live in the moment instead of trying to fast forward time. I wish we could allow ourselves to soak into the present rather than wish for the future. There’s a reason why things feel misplaced when we finally reach a time we’ve not only anticipated but also tried to force into our current timeline. I know the storefronts and websites don’t make it any better; for example, apparently Walmart is going to have Black Friday in like five days?? That’s so crazy to me 😭
My challenge for us all is to be HERE AND NOW. Not thinking ahead to Christmas, or even to Thanksgiving. But right now.
