AT LONG LAST, I CAN WATCH A SANRIO SHOW!!
I never got the chance to watch the OG Hello Kitty show that I’ve seen memes and gifs about, but seeing a stop-motion kind of Sanrio show has my Wallace and Gromit-loving heart ready to EXPLODE!

So, I haven’t necessarily been a My Melody or Kuromi fan (usually, I’m all for Hello Kitty, Cinnamaroll, or Chococat!), but I couldn’t pass up being able to watch these two adorable bunnies with polar opposite personalities in their own show!
“stop-motion”: “a cinematographic technique whereby the camera is repeatedly stopped and started, for example to give animated figures the impression of movement.”

so far…
My Melody and Kuromi live in a village called Miraland, where they are in competition for who can make the best sweets. And you can probably guess who the village favorite is (it’s not Kuromi). My Melody has a dream one night about this Cloud Kingdom, and she somehow ends up there, coming into possession of a pink, sprinkled heart.
I won’t explain everything, but basically the Heart puts sprinkles on My Melody’s pastries, causing people to fall more in love with them. Two fox characters Tamba and Sasage, are on the hunt for this Heart, but join Kuromi on her side to try to get close to My Melody to get it somehow. Kuromi knows that My Melody has some special secret that causes people to love her baking, so she tries to figure it out.
the last episode I watched
Mr. Pistachio, the best chef in the world, hosts a baking contest that My Melody and Kuromi enter. Despite everyone loving My Melody’s pancakes, when Mr. Pistachio tries them, he knows she (unknowingly) used the Heart’s power to make them as good as they are. So, he choose Kuromi’s dorayaki over My Melody’s pancakes, and one of the fox characters takes the Heart when no one is looking.
Kuromi’s dorayaki becomes extremely popular due to the Heart’s sprinkles being abused by Mr. Pistachio and Kuromi. But it starts to cause the villagers to go out of control. My Melody knows that they’ve kidnapped the Heart, and tries to save him. She is able to run away with him, with Kuromi in tow because she also now realizes that something is very, very wrong.
my thoughts so far
I honestly shouldn’t have been surprised when I saw that this show was #2 in the KIDS genre on Netflix…the whole thing is definitely for the juvenile crowd, but it honestly is so nice to watch something new that’s stop-motion, and while its got its dark moments, isn’t as dark as, say, the anime I’ve been watching lately (at least, so farrrr). I’ll be eager to see how the last half of the show plays out! I wonder if it will lend itself towards having a second season? If so, how long will it take to release since it’s stop-motion?
Whoever created this is super talented! I’ve been seeing some behind the scenes of how the show was created, and to see all the work it takes to have to move the characters, and cause things to happen is so wild, but definitely so worth it! Everything in the show runs super smoothly!
You already know, I’ll be back with the last half of this review, along with the star-rating!
