✨NEW SAGA UNLOCKED: mishy’s “little weird books”

A new saga has been UNLOCKED!

I started a couple of book clubs this year: one with a couple of coworkers from the library, and the other with online friends I’ve made through game streaming! Through these book clubs, I’ve encountered something I’d like to call “little weird books.”

How would I define a “little weird book”?

Page length: 250 pages or less. I’m lenient on going a little over the 250, but not by much.

Content: WEIRD. Like, creepy, cringey, or both. A short, typical fictional story won’t do…”weird” is in the title, so “WEIRD” they must be! More than likely, there will be adult themes, so, I wouldn’t suggest these books to your preteen or teenager.

Book: It has to be a book. Not a short story. It counts if it’s the e-book or audiobook!

I’ve already read three of these “little weird books” (what my coworker Kristina calls “lwb’s”), and I’m excited to start this new book review saga alongside the Demon Slayer one (I will get back to that one though, trust me!).

The first three books I’ll be covering are: In the Miso Soup, Spread Me, and Comfort Me with Apples. I’ve also made a list on my StoryGraph, so if you’d like to get a sneak peek of what other lwb’s I’ll be reading, then you can do that as well!

This era is so unique for me; I told my coworkers at the library that maybe I did miss my calling, and should’ve been a professor of “little weird books” literature. If an English professor can teach Taylor Swift literature, then I’m sure I could teach a whole class on little weird books, and the trend that’s going on with them at this moment in history!

Watch…I’ll publish this post, someone will come across it, and within the next semester or school year, a professor at a university will pop up and say “I’m teaching a class on little weird books!” And you’ll know the idea originated from me, because you’ve been reading my updates. Will you do me a favor? If you ever come across that professor, tell them to cite me as the source of their inspiration, pretty please! Because let’s give credit where credit is due!

And if that really happens, y’all? SOMEONE OWES ME MONEY! Because ain’t no way I could call this so far into the future. But when you’ve been working with and in the media and Internet for so long, you realize the patterns don’t change. People’s original ideas are always being copied, emulated, molded to be more digestible to their personal audience. Is it a compliment? Is it a slight? I honestly feel like it’s a little bit of both.

But enough about that. This rant isn’t what you’re here for! 😂 You just read all this to find out what “little weird books” are. And now you know.

So buckle up. Admittedly, this will be a bumpy ride!
