still got it.
Despite me writing poems only every once in a while, I love that a specific event in my life can occur, and my brain takes it, and runs with it. Meaning: I immediately begin to think of a story plot to go with what I just experienced. I honestly need to start writing drafts with all the ideas I’ve come up with.
Personally, after taking some creative writing classes in college, I got even more discouraged about writing fiction stories. I didn’t think I was the best at it, but my feedback on most of my assignments wasn’t as enthusiastic as my peers, I felt. So, I let go of fiction writing all together after college, and pursued poetry.
But a happening in my life today spurred a small idea that I feel could grow into something. So, I’ll write a brief summary, and put it in my back pocket for later.
Maybe I feel this way because of all the books I’ve been reading lately? If so, it’s a lovely feeling; I do love blogging, but being able to write in other ways is fun too!
I guess it’s just encouraging to me to see that my brain still works this way. That even after being sort of discouraged from fiction writing after college, I still can create great ideas that might just grow into something more later.
We’ll all just have to wait and see if this idea comes to fruition!
What’s a skill or talent that you haven’t exercised in a while? Do you feel that you’ve lost touch with it? What’s something that has assured you that you’ve still got it?
