Hello, luvvies! I’ve made it to Day 2 of NaNoWriMo, are you proud of me? 😂

Last week, Nintendo announced that, after 5 years they’re releasing 3.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons! It will be for the Switch 2, and for the first Switch, which is SUPER exciting! Apparently there will be 15 new features, including:

• Kapp’n’s Resort Hotel: a hotel owned and run by the character Kapp’n’ and his family! He’ll still be offering island tours, but you’ll be able to decorate guest rooms, shop for items, and dress up the mannequins in the front. The decorating of the rooms sounds similar to how the Happy Home DLC is, which will be cool to see on your own island! With this, a new currency called Hotel Tickets is introduced, which will allow you to get special new items in the game

• Crafting Requests: This will be a bulletin board on the dock next to Kapp’n’s boat. Four crafting requests will be posted, and if completed, will allow you to get a certain number of Hotel Tickets.
• Slumber Islands: This sounds like it’ll be associated with the Dream Islands one can visit when they sleep in the game. Only this time, you’ll be able to customize one, placing furniture, bridges (at no extra cost), and trees (at any growth stage) as well as changing the time and weather of the island, and the size of the island. You’ll also be able to customize up to 3 slumber islands at a time, which is HUGE because you can usually only create one!
• Decorate an Island with Online Friends: This is the update that had me most excited since I usually do seasonal Animal Crossing tours with my online friends! We usually tour each other’s decorated islands, give gifts, maybe do scavenger hunts, but this will allow us to work on an island TOGETHER, and that’s so cool!! You can have up to 11 friends on the Switch 2 and 7 friends on the original Switch! This is definitely going to be a fun update for me and my friends!
• Collabs from other games: LEGO, Legend of Zelda, and Splatoon will have specialized furniture and even characters available! Having new items in game will be very refreshing since we’ve had the same furniture and items for the last 5 years.
• Crafting items in BULK: FINALLY!! This is another update I’m excited about! It was honestly so annoying to have to just make one item, and then go back to the crafting station and do it all over again. ACNH definitely need a quality of life update, and this was a great one to add!
• Expanded house storage to 9000: Another great quality of life update!! I don’t know about anyone else, but I tend to hoard items just in case I need them to decorate or to have gifts for my friends when they visit!
• Island Clean Up and Reset with Resetti: Gone will be the days of picking up every individual item to clean up and area of your island! With this update, you can use the powers of Resetti to reset part of or your entire island! This will come in handy after decorating and then desiring to redecorate!!

The update will drop on January 15, 2026! So only a couple of short months until we get to experience this amazing changes!

Now, even though I’m excited to see all this new update has to offer, I will say that I wonder if the game developers of ACNH did their research on some of the latest cozy games to come up with these updates. Many cozy games allow for the crafting of multiple items, which a great feature to have anyway, and some have unlimited storage for all the items people love to carry! The crafting bulletin board in particular made me think of Fields of Mistria, a cozy game that was released last year that is continuously releasing patch updates. There is a bulletin board in that game, and I’m pretty sure in other recent cozy games one has been added for daily tasks that the gamer can do in order to achieve rewards.

No matter, this update is a huge win for the cozy gaming world! Animal Crossing: New Horizons was the first game I picked back up once I got my job at the library, and it’s still something I enjoy playing every now and then! I’ll have to come back after playing the new update, and write my review on it!
