I was going to write about something completely different, but my thoughts switched after hearing the news of a NFL player named Damar Hamlin fainting during the Bills and Bengals game.
Only two days into the new year, and something like this happening causes us to pause and re-evaluate what’s really important. As I listened to the sports newscasters discuss the events that occurred, and the possible decision to cancel the game, I felt so many different emotions. Relieved because it shows the priorities of the coaches, officials, teams, and network. How could anyone continue a football game after seeing a player not only faint, but also have CPR administered to them before being rushed away in an ambulance? It gives me faith that we as humans haven’t completely lost what’s truly important.
This occurrence gave me perspective, as it should have to everyone who witnessed it either in person or on television. We always believe that there is a tomorrow for us; we make plans for the next day without second guessing whether we’ll be alive to fulfill them. Watching someone endure a life or death situation should remind us that we should truly live out the moment we’re in, even if the moment is something as “simple” as cooking, driving around, cleaning our homes.
I won’t hold you readers for too long. I just want you all to truly take the time you’re given to LIVE your life to the fullest. Any goals you set for the year? Do your best to stick to them consistently, and not just for the month of January. Today is a gift!
And until we know what the status of Damar Hamlin, let’s keep him in our prayers.
