excellence.
We are currently in the midst of Black History Month, and while our excellence is highlighted mostly during this time, we shine every single month of the year.
My only hope and prayer is that we don’t limit our success or excellence to physical, visual, even word-of-mouth things. Those who truly understand what it means to be a light and an influence know what I’m talking about because it’s BIGGER than just ourselves. While we may put in a lot of work, we also serve a higher purpose, and we know that the things we are capable of doing are done not by our own hands, minds, and hearts because we’re only human, we’re imperfect.
It has to be deeper than ourselves.
I told a friend of mine that I pray that we reach greater heights this year that are beyond receiving a physical reward. There’s nothing wrong with being acknowledged, especially when you’ve worked hard and earned it. But sometimes the acknowledgement can grow into pride, affecting the original mission in which you were called to. I’m not saying it happens to everyone, but it can happen if we’re not careful.
I hope that those who are rewarded and those who aren’t seek to better themselves no matter what. We could all learn more, grow more, achieve more! And we can also take a step back and do less things in order to become more of the person God has called us to be.
Just some thoughts I have! To all my Black brothers and sisters out there, Happy Black History Month! May you be reminded of those who came before us to pave the way to where we are now; remember those who we’ve lost that have gotten justice and those who still need justice served; and shine your excellence all year round!
What does being “excellent” mean to you? What does “success” mean to you? Do you believe that you’re following the calling God has on your life, and that you’re doing it well? If so, how have you stayed the course? If not, how can you get back on track?
