A Haunting in Venice (MOVIE REVIEW with ‼️POSSIBLE SPOILERS‼️)

I’ve been MIA all weekend, but honestly, it’s just what I needed. I’m sad to see my 3-day weekend already coming to an end. But I got so much rest, and some important things done, and I’m grateful to have been able to have so many consecutive days off!

I just finished watching A Haunting in Venice (literally, the credits rolled maybe ten minutes ago), and since I’ve been in the habit of reviewing movies and books lately, I wanted to go ahead and give my thoughts.

Nancy Drew meets Agatha Christie.

If you’ve been following along with me these past couple of months, you’ll remember that I blogged about having a MAJOR Nancy Drew era in my life. Once I started getting older though, I began dipping my toes into other mysteries, Agatha Christie novels to be specific. I want to say it was my stepdad who introduced me to her, and I began collecting her books (though the collection wasn’t as extensive as my Nancy Drew books).

I loved Hercules Poirot and Miss Marple. My first Agatha Christie novel was And Then There Were None, I think! That’s the one that stands out to me the most! So when I realized this movie was one based on Agatha Christie, I was very excited to watch it!

Synopsis.

Anyways, back to my review: A Haunting in Venice is about retired detective Hercule Poirot getting dragged into another mystery by a friend — he must discover the secret to a medium’s gifts, and expose the tricks of it! But what starts as a fun challenge turns into a murder mystery when the medium is killed.

Basically, Poirot must figure out if what is happening is by human hands, or by things in the afterlife. Admittedly, I was a little sleepy watching this so I fell asleep during a few parts, BUT I was awake for the most important ones!

Favorite character?

I love a detective that can solve a mystery, and not only that, but do an amazing job of explaining how and why things happened the way they did. Poirot was an excellent example of this, not only figuring out the main mystery, but realizing some other things that had gone into play as well.

Is it Scary?

For those who want to know if this is a scary movie, the answer is yes and no. We’re talking about MURDER here, that’s pretty scary. But compared to actual horror movies, this is definitely more of a mystery/suspense movie.

Fun fact!

During the end credits, it said that this movie was based on the book Halloween Party by Agatha Christie, which is a fairly new book, by the way. And I only know this because the library is getting it already had copies at a few of our branches, and I wanted to read it. Well, now I’m sad I didn’t read the book before I watched the movie 😭 so, if you’re interested in watching this movie, but love to read, maybe you should read the book first!

Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Why only 4 stars, you ask? Because I guessed a crucial part of the mystery near the beginning, and I was right 😂 maybe I’m being a little harsh, but if I can guess one thing about the crime before it even comes up in the explanation, did it really stump me for real? 😂 I just have so much experience from Nancy Drew, Hercule Poirot, and Miss Marple! I love guessing things in mystery movies or shows, and seeing if I was right at all.

But some of what occurred did surprise me, I wasn’t expecting some of the outcomes that did happen, so, I say this is a mystery movie worth watching!
