MOVIE REVIEW (‼️POTENTIAL SPOILERS‼️): Skinamarink.

Happy Halloween, luvvies! 🎃

It’s lovely that my off-day landed on Halloween this year! I was able to participate in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween festivities for the first time ever (crazy how I was never able to make it that far in the game). And tonight was our sister date night, along with my sister’s boyfriend since he was off of work today as well.

We decided to get pizza and watch a scary movie, and we landed on one called Skinamarink (you can stream it on Hulu). So, I’ll be giving my review on it (yes, there could be spoilers, so if you do want to watch it, watch it first then come back and read this!)

some description.

It definitely wasn’t your “typical” horror movie, although there are probably a few out there filmed the same way. It’s giving 90s VHS tape vibes, and the story is shown from the children’s point of view – we only see legs and feet, or we see the ceilings and the tops of doors. We never really see faces during the film, and there’s a little talking, but not much. There were a LOT of still shots, and the zooming in of objects or people wasn’t your typical pan or zoom. In this respect, you’ll just have to watch the movie like I did to know what I’m talking about. I took one film class in college, but I barely gained knowledge from it (except maybe the word “juxtaposition”). Probably would’ve done better if I hadn’t taken it as a freshman.

ANYWAYS…

The plot of the film is that a young girl named Kaylee and her brother Kevin wake up in the middle of the night to discover that their father is missing, and that the windows and the doors of the house have disappeared, leaving them no escape. What follows are several horrific days of them trying to figure out what to do…and what’s inside the house with them.

so…is it scary?

Yes and no. There were definitely part that had me looking through my fingers, trying not to see everything 😂 But then there were parts I was legit falling asleep on because the sound was giving horror movie ASMR (ex: *fabric shuffles* watch the movie, and you’ll get this reference). The idea of the movie is terrifying once you watch it, and then look up a blog or two about what the movie is actually portraying. It’s a great perspective though, and I think everyone should at least give it a try!

the characters.

There really weren’t that many characters in this movie, and none of them were my favorite, if I’m being honest.

The old cartoons playing in the background were definitely paid actors though! They made up for the lack of music in this film.

overall rating: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I feel like I didn’t give too much information because I think you should watch this movie. Again, you might have to fight sleep during some parts (hence why this movie didn’t get a full 5 stars from me), but once you watch the whole thing, and then realize what the movie is about, you start to put pieces together on what was said, why things happened the way they did, etc. I do suggests watching it with friends so you all can have some good commentary with each other about what’s happening!

What did you do for Halloween today? Do you like watching scary movies? What was the last horror film you watched?
