TV SHOW REVIEW: Regular Show.

Y’all!

This week, I finished watching one of my favorite cartoons of all time: Regular Show. I remember watching it mostly in college, I think, with my best friend Bria. I’d never watched it all the way through, but recently I decided to pick up where I left off, and finish all 8 seasons of it.

So, let’s get into it!

the characters.

Every character in this show has such a distinct personality, and I love it. Whoever wrote out the descriptions for these characters is genius!

Despite them being the protagonists, Mordecai (the blue jay) and Rigby (the raccoon) always find a way to cause some sort of trouble, and usually the trouble is on a GRAND SCALE: dealing with aliens and other worlds. BUT they also always find a way to fix things, which puts their boss Benson (the talking gumball machine) in a bind (but not really though because he never fires them, even though he always threatens to).

favorite character?

I might be biased, but I’ve always loved Mordecai. Even though he gets into trouble with Rigby, he’s the more level-headed out of the two of them…most of the time. 😂

least favorite character.

My initial thought would be Benson because he’s so uptight and angry, but I appreciated that in the later seasons, the writers allowed him to have more of a story, and more feelings than just anger. I would have also said Muscle Man because his character just seems dirty to me 😭 but then he married Starla, and became more responsible so, he grew on me.

Maybe my least favorite characters are the floating baby gods. They were always just odd to me with their giant heads and deep voices.

In Memory of…

Okay so, ‼️SPOILER ALERT‼️ but Pops dies at the very end of the show. And it breaks my heart because he was the most innocent and naive one out of them all. He was always so good-natured, and never ceased to help his friends, even if they were causing some trouble. He died for a good cause, but DAMN I was so sad when he died 😭💔🪦

in space for season 8.

At first, I wasn’t fond of the concept of the park being in space for the whole last season. I missed the familiarity of the park, Cheezers, etc. But I guess during the time the show was airing, it might have needed more views, so they decided to go a different route.

The last season wasn’t bad though, and the finale episodes wrapping up the show were 🤌🏽 *chef’s kiss*. BRILLIANT. Just the whole concept that they put about why their world was ending, literally because of TV views and ratings, and allowing it to be the end of their world…but the beginning of new things for each of the characters. It was beautiful. Getting to see them all grow, some of them leaving the park, getting married and having kids…🥹 I’m pretty sure I shed a few tears.

my one complaint.

I’m still kinda upset that Mordecai didn’t end up with Margaret. They had so much history together, even through the whole CJ phase, only for him to get married to a random bat character that we have never seen before. I guess it’s supposed to show Mordecai’s growth of letting things go, and starting anew, but I was a little salty that my Mordecai and Margaret ship didn’t pan out.

overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Five Stars for Regular Show! It’s one of my comfort shows, if I’m being honest, so at some point I’ll probably end up rewatching the episodes again as background noise for when I’m playing my switch or working on something.

Have you ever watched Regular Show? What’s your take on it? What’s your favorite cartoon (or one of your favorites, if you can’t pick)?
