I wrote a deeper mini blog on my Instagram yesterday (go check that out at @mishywrites!), so part of me felt like that was my blogging for yesterday ๐
And if you follow me on Instagram already, you’ll know that I did a collaboration giveaway with a few natural hair care businesses (click on the image below to go through the details if you’re interested in entering!)

I was inspired by my friend Gayla, who insisted that a good way to increase social media engagement was to do a giveaway. And I decided to focus on natural hair for several reasons:
- I love my natural hair. Yes, it comes with its challenges, but I am SO grateful every day that my mom never caved in to giving me a relaxer (not saying there’s anything wrong with those who do use relaxers!). I just appreciate my hair so much more the way it is.
- I’ve had the privilege of being a brand ambassador for the natural hair brand Crown Full of Locs/Curls, and I’ve been able to buy and use products from Tuty’s Boutique and HairWorks Hair Care, so I wanted to do something different to gain more business for these brands, and more exposure for myself as well!
In honor of the giveaway, I wanted to share some of my favorite curly hairstyles! Recently, I’ve been branching out from my normal two-twist curls, and doing other things like space buns, braids, braid outs, etc.
Low bun (+ head wrap)
Right after I went back to work, I’m not even sure what inspired me to look into head wraps, but I went on Pinterest and started pinning all the head wrap posts…pictures, videos on how to do them, etc. This video was taken on the 4th of July when I tried my very first head wrap on a low bun, and I LOVED it!
Honestly, the low bun style is definitely not something I would have worn outside of my apartment. Not that I didn’t think it looked bad on other people, I just didn’t think it looked good on me; I’m so used to hiding behind my hair, and having it be the first thing people see or compliment me on when they see me. The low bun was usually my go-to style after washing my hair. But my boyfriend encouraged me to wear it like that more often, and I can’t lie and say that that (plus my co-workers encouragement and compliments as well) didn’t motivate me to do so ๐๐๐ฝ
And head wraps are so pretty! So many different colors to wear and match with outfits (which I love to match!).
Slicked Back, Low Ponytail
The slicked back look forces me to practice on my edges (although, I feel like a lot of my edges are too long ๐ค), but this look was brought on by getting used to the low bun! Definitely better for colder weather…having my hair on my neck when it’s hot is a no-go ๐ ๐ฝโโ๏ธ
Space Buns & Braids ๐ช๐ซ
Out of all the new hairstyles I’ve done this past summer, I think I go back to this one the most. Even though it takes me a minute to get it exactly the way I want, I love this look on me. I used to think I looked childish with space buns, but now? I’m hella cute lol ๐๐
Not sure what to call this style…
Admittedly, I’ve only tried this one time, and I did it paired with my two-strand twists! It turned out really cute, I feel like I want to try it with a braid-out next time!
Braid Out
Who would have thought that two braids drying overnight, then unbraided and styled with ECO style gel and a little bit of water would have my hair turning out this good?? Yeah, it does get bigger (and a little frizzier) as the day goes on, but it’s still really pretty ๐
I say and show all this because I want everyone to love themselves as they are. I used to hate my curly hair, and wished for straight hair all of my middle and high school life. It wasn’t until college that I had a hairdresser pour into me the wisdom on how to take care of my hair! And even now, four years out of college, I’m still learning and branching out in new ways!
Hope you enjoyed this fun blog post!
What kind of hair do you have? What’s something about yourself that you don’t really like, but can learn to love? How can you learn to love that part of yourself?
