Behind the Words: “Vitamin C”

Today, I posted a set of poetic affirmations on my Instagram, and I wanted to do a Behind the Words segment on them!

Honestly…I was looking through Pinterest for some inspiration, whether it was photoshoots, hairstyles, poetry, etc. And since this month I’m focusing my aesthetic and brand on the color ORANGE, then I was looking through photos of orange things.

So, lo and behold, I ran across tons of photos of oranges (fruits), and these words spilled out of my brain (thank you, God! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ). I’ll break down why I personally chose each affirmation!

“Stay CLOSE…”

I think it can be easy for me to isolate myself mentally and emotionally when I’m feeling discouraged or down. Everyone has their own things going on, and I don’t want to add to the list of things for people to think about, so I just stay silent with my own issues, and try to work through them on my own.

However, I’m learning to speak up when I do need help, or when I am overthinking. I’m re-learning to trust those who say they’re there for me instead of being skeptical or doubting that their intentions and motivations are good.


Perfectionism can be difficult to break out of. Add being a creative on top of that, and I usually won’t release anything unless it’s 100% perfect. But it’s not impossible to move forward from this mindset! Sometimes you just have to release some things even if it’s not exactly as you envisioned it. I’ve had to learn this with several different projects.

Now, this doesn’t mean to sell yourself short every time you want to accomplish something; it doesn’t mean that it’s okay to exert half the effort, and release whatever is there. But if you’ve worked extremely hard to get something to where you’d like it to be, but it turns out you’re able to launch it just as is, that is okay. It’s okay to continue to be creative in new ways that you’re not used to. It’s okay to keep practicing your craft so you can keep getting better at it!

“COUNT Your Blessings…”

How easy is it for your mind to start dwelling on what you don’t have? In the era we live in with social media, all it takes is a few minutes of scrolling sometimes to get us feeling like we’re missing something or someone in our lives. We can start to feel inadequate with where we are in life, and with who we are when we should truly be thankful for what we have, where we are, and for who God created us to be.

For me, I set reminders on my phone to go off at different times of the day, and each one has an affirmation or something I am grateful for so I can remember to really enjoy being in my present season.


Currently, I’m in week 3 of a new schedule and routine for myself, and I’m still trying to work out the kinks / not get so distracted by other things as I add specific tasks that I need to accomplish. Being consistent takes work and SELF-DISCIPLINE, something that also takes some practice.

Most importantly, though, it takes reliance on God’s strength to carry myself through those moments of weakness when I feel like giving up!
