Happy Saturday! What fun things did you do today?
Well, I decided I would go to a fun event by myself today. One of my favorite coffee shops Sleepyhead Coffee celebrated four years of being a business today, and they did so with an event with vendors, food trucks, an Oatly happy hour, and more! It would have been easy to try to get my friends or sister to go with me, but I decided that it would be okay if I went alone.
Something I haven’t done a great job of since COVID is going to events, even if it’s by myself. I used to love networking and seeing people I know and love! Today reminded me that I need to do more of that; not only did I see so many people, I finally got to meet a couple of people that I’d only connected with online! And it was so sweet to see them do their thing, and also to hear them compliment me on doing my thing as well!
In a way, today felt like self-care: sometimes we have to do things by ourselves, and overall, we have to be okay with our own company! It’s inspired me to be more proactive in my alone time during the week. Over the summer, I did a pretty good job of sticking to my nighttime routine: about an hour before bed, I’d plug my phone into the charger, turn off most of the lights in my apartment, light a candle, play some music, and write. I’d write for 45 minutes, and then in the last 15 minutes, I’d brush my teeth, take my contacts out, do the little things before I went to bed.
I’ve been trying to get back to that routine, but it’s been a struggle. I’ve added on new things, like my podcast and even blogging here, so keeping up with everything can be a little overwhelming. I think I just need to balance my time out right; maybe if I scheduled certain things hour by hour, or in other increments, I’d be able to accomplish everything I need to!
Anyways…all that to say, the time by myself was much needed, and I’m glad I did it! It was a beautiful day, and I needed to get outside. I told myself I wouldn’t waste one pretty day of the year this year, even if I that meant just sitting outside on the porch for an hour. It’s also encouraging to know that spring will officially be here in 16 days!!! I couldn’t be more excited!
What are some things you enjoy doing by yourself? How do you implement alone time throughout the week?
